KOTA KINABALU: Meetings related to Sabah rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) are still ongoing, said Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.
“My officer yesterday just updated me on what is currently going on. There are meetings at the technical level.
“At this point of time, it's all about data and what not. They are laying down the foundations to facilitate negotiations, to finalise the negotiations.
“We are trying to get the data from various departments and agencies, federal agencies. So we are sorting it out before we talk about it,” said the state Finance Minister , in response to the fulfilment of the constitutionally guaranteed 40pc revenue entitlement.
Masidi was speaking to the media after representing Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor at the launch of the Sabah Timber Legality Assurance System Plus booklet at a hotel here.
On Oct 17 last year, the High Court allowed the Sabah Law Society’s (SLS) judicial review concerning the state’s constitutional right to claim 40 per cent of the net revenue derived from Sabah.
The review must be held within 90 days, and an agreement reached within 180 days from the date of the order.
When asked whether the Sabah government is confident the rights would be honoured, Masidi said the issue should not be viewed as an issue of the country.
“It should be a single team of Malaysians (to address the issue), it is not a Sabah team versus a federal team.
“I'm sure we can find a solution.”
