KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah government is providing more opportunities for Bumiputera entrepreneurs to grow through the provision of business premises and capacity-building programmes.

Sedcovest, a Sabah government-linked company, today launched its third business incubator centre at Anjung Selera here.

Its chairman Datuk Redonah Bahanda said the outlet offers flexible and more affordable premises for small and medium enterprise (SME) entrepreneurs in the Kota Kinabalu area.

“For new entrepreneurs, sometimes even finding an office is difficult — even obtaining a proper business address can become a burden.

“With the establishment of this incubator centre, we can help new entrepreneurs secure office space at affordable rental rates starting from RM500 up to RM1,200 depending on size,” she told reporters during the launch.

Redonah said that beyond workspace, Sedcovest also provides capability-building programmes to strengthen business sustainability.

She added the company helps improve entrepreneurs’ competency through courses aligned with current developments, such as digital marketing.

“We also conduct courses related to product pricing so entrepreneurs can set appropriate prices, allowing them to earn reasonable profit while remaining acceptable to customers.”

The programmes include entrepreneurship and technical entrepreneur workshops aimed at enabling participants to build their own income streams in line with government aspirations to expand self-employment opportunities.

The incubator’s mandate focuses on Bumiputera entrepreneurs who demonstrate commitment to running a business, with the organisation stressing that success requires more than funding alone.

“Business requires not only funding but also strong personal commitment and determination, as our aim is to produce truly competitive and sustainable entrepreneurs.”

This year, Sedcovest plans to organise about 22 training series benefiting between 350 and 400 entrepreneurs.

Each session will involve about 25 to 30 participants to allow a more targeted approach.

Redonah added that as a government-linked company (GLC), Sedcovest is responsible not only for creating social value through entrepreneur development but also for maintaining solid financial performance and sustainable revenue generation.

Also present was Sedcovest former chairman Datuk Rubbin Guribah.
