KOTA KINABALU: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged the Pakatan Harapan (PH) Sabah machinery to be prepared for the upcoming general election.
Sabah PH chairman Datuk Mustapha Sakmud said Anwar, who is the coalition chief, had delivered the key message to PKR members during a mini convention.
"Among others, PMX (Anwar) asked that the party machinery be prepared to face the elections.
"He also asked us to better understand key issues affecting the state, including matters related to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) and the 40 per cent revenue entitlement," he said when met by the press at a hotel here.
Mustapha, who is also Sabah PKR chief, said the convention was also aimed at boosting the morale of party members after the 17th Sabah general election last year.
Sabah PH contested 22 state seats and won only the Melalap seat.
On party preparations, Mustapha said Sabah PH would begin holding annual general meetings at the branch level before convening its party congress in June.
"After this, we will move to hold annual general meetings at each branch. Eventually we will hold the party congress in June," he said, adding that they had yet to discuss the number of seats the coalition would contest in the general election.
Mustapha added that Sabah PH currently has about 150,000 members, noting that the number had increased.
Asked if he would contest the Sepanggar parliamentary seat again in the future, Mustapha said it would depend on the party leadership.
"If the President allows it, InsyaAllah I am still interested in contesting in Sepanggar," he said, adding that he was ready to fight and that the decision ultimately rested with the voters.
As for the earlier meeting between Anwar and Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor at Menara Kinabalu, Mustapha said the discussions centred on the development of Sabah.
