KOTA KINABALU: A live Chinese calligraphy showcase will be among the highlights of Sabah's state-level Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration this Saturday, said Local Government and Housing Ministry Sabah minister Datuk Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif.

He said the artist from China, who is based in Kuala Lumpur, will perform live calligraphy during the celebration at the Sabah International Convention Centre here.

"We also have several other highlights. First, we will present contributions to nine welfare homes, including those for orphans and persons with disabilities.

"We are inviting local Sabah singers and artistes, including Marsha Milan and Fauziah Gambus, along with several other performances," he told the media at a press conference.

Mohd Arifin, who is also the organising chairperson, said the celebration, themed "Aidilfitri as a Platform for Unity", is expected to draw about 20,000 visitors.

The event would be held from 10am to 2pm, with about 20,000 visitors, including more than 1,000 tahfiz students and orphans.

Sabah Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Musa Aman and Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor will also be present.

A total of 71 stalls operated by local entrepreneurs, along with participation from 15 hotels and several government agencies, will provide festive food for visitors.
