KOTA KINABALU: Sabah-born fast-food brand Chunk & Dunk will mark a major milestone in its growth with its first international expansion to the Philippines, becoming the first Sabahan-owned fast-food chain to establish an outlet overseas.

The expansion will be formalised during a public signing ceremony between the company’s Malaysian and Philippine partners on March 22 at The Oval in Imago Shopping Mall.

Founded by Sabahan entrepreneur Adam Shamil, the brand began as a local concept in Penampang and has grown into one of the state’s recognisable fast-food names in less than two years.

Chunk & Dunk currently operates six outlets — five in Sabah and one in Sarawak — and is known for its signature croffles and vibrant brand culture.

Shamil said the international venture represents a defining milestone for the company.

“This is more than expansion. It is proof that a dream built in Sabah can challenge limits and cross borders,” he said.

“There was a time when Chunk & Dunk existed only as an idea funded by my personal savings. To now see it expand internationally reminds me that when you risk everything for something you believe in, extraordinary things can happen.”

He added that the company would continue to carry its Sabahan roots as it expands into new markets.

“We carry our Sabahan roots with pride as we enter the Philippine market, and we hope this inspires more young entrepreneurs to dream beyond their circumstances.”

The signing ceremony is expected to attract between 1,500 and 2,500 attendees, including Philippine delegates, local personalities and members of the public. The event will also be livestreamed globally by the brand.

Among those expected to attend are Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and Industrial Development, Entrepreneurship and Transport Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick.

The event will feature performances by Stacy Anam, Akim Ahmad, Malaysian-Filipino artist Yazmin Aziz, as well as Elica Paujin and Dabra Sia.

It will be hosted by television personality Daphne Iking, with live broadcast coverage by TV Sabah and radio partnership support from Kupi-Kupi FM.
