KOTA KINABALU: An old building within the Sabah Police Contingent Headquarters in Kepayan here has been given a new lease of life after being transformed into the Sabah Police Gallery.
Officiating the gallery’s opening, Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor commended the initiative to repurpose the old structure into a gallery, describing it as more than just an exhibition space.
“This gallery is a living archive that immortalises the history, sacrifices and commitment of the Royal Malaysia Police in Sabah,” he said, adding that it stands as a testament to the dedication of officers in maintaining peace and security.
The gallery also serves as a platform to honour both serving and retired personnel for their invaluable contributions.
In addition to its commemorative role, Hajiji noted that the gallery will function as an educational centre, offering younger generations insight into the importance of security and the sacrifices made to achieve it.
Among the key exhibits featured is the 2013 Lahad Datu intrusion in Tanduo, a significant event that remains etched in the state’s history.
“It reminds us of the importance of safety, peace and the high level of discipline upheld by the police force,” he said.
In conjunction with the 219th Police Day celebration, Hajiji called on all police personnel to continue serving with dedication, integrity and discipline.
He added that the state government will continue to support the needs of police personnel, whom he described as a key strategic partner in ensuring security and driving development.
He stressed that security remains the foundation of stability, public well-being and investor confidence, particularly under the Sabah Maju Jaya 2.0 (SMJ 2.0) development framework.
“Without stability, development efforts under SMJ 2.0 would certainly be affected,” he said.
