KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Police Gallery has been recognised as one of the three main galleries under the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), serving as a key reference centre for the nation’s policing history.

Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun said the gallery completes an important historical chain alongside the Bukit Kepong Emergency Gallery in Johor and the Inspector-General of Police Gallery in Kuala Lumpur.

He said official approval for the premises to be named the Sabah Police Gallery was granted on March 12, 2025, by PDRM Management director Datuk Seri Abdul Aziz Abdul Majid.

“From that date, the gallery has been placed under the supervision of the PDRM Police Museum in Kuala Lumpur to ensure that the preservation of artefacts and documentation meets established policing standards.

“This gallery serves as a storytelling platform documenting the long journey of PDRM in Sabah since its early establishment, and stands as a tribute to officers and personnel who have served and continue to serve in the state,” he said.

Jauteh added that every artefact and narrative displayed represents the sacrifices of police personnel in safeguarding Sabah’s sovereignty.

He was speaking at the opening ceremony of the Sabah Police Gallery at the Sabah Police Contingent Headquarters here on Wednesday.

The gallery was officially opened by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor.

Jauteh said the establishment of the gallery was made possible through the strong support and commitment of the state government from the initial planning stage through to its completion.

He said both material and moral support from the state government were crucial in realising the project.

The idea for the gallery was first mooted in 2018, with detailed planning beginning in 2019. However, the project was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic between 2020 and 2021.

“In 2022, following discussions with the state government, an initial allocation of RM1.15 million was approved to begin construction of the gallery and the Ops Daulat memorial in Lahad Datu.

“At the end of 2023, the state government approved an additional RM2.5 million, including RM2 million for gallery fittings and RM500,000 to ensure the Ops Daulat memorial stands as a symbol of the bravery of national heroes,” he said.

Jauteh said the gallery showcases not only the history of policing in Sabah, including weapons and equipment, but also houses important artefacts from Ops Daulat.

Also present were State Secretary Datuk Seri Panglima Sr Safar Untong; Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif; and Youth, Sports and Creative Economy Development Minister Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan.
