KOTA KINABALU: The federal government is committed to honouring Sabah's 40 per cent revenue entitlement, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

He said there was no negotiation over the matter.

"As far as this government is concerned, we have given categorical assurance that this is a firm commitment. It's a decision I have declared in the cabinet and in Parliament.

"No negotiations. We are committed to honouring our commitment to 40 per cent (revenue entitlement) for the people of Sabah.

"We did not appeal the 40 per cent (revenue entitlement) that has been finalised," he said during the Madani Iftar event at Universiti Malaysia Sabah.

On Oct 17 last year, the High Court acknowledged Sabah's entitlement to a 40 per cent share of net federal revenue derived from the state for the period between 1974 and 2021, commonly referred to as the "lost years".

Last week, Putrajaya filed a notice of motion for a stay of the court order.

Anwar, who is also finance minister, had said the judgment had issues around the roles of federal leaders since the time of Tunku Abdul Rahman and Tun Abdul Razak, as well as other great national and state leaders, such as Tun Datu Mustapha, Tun Fuad Stephens, Tan Sri Harris Salleh and Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan.

"For us, the statements and conclusions in the judgment are not necessarily final. That is our view.

"We have, therefore, brought the matter to court to seek clarification.

"Does this affect the 40 per cent issue? It does not arise at all. The 40 per cent matter is already settled. We are not going to question that."

Separately, Anwar approved an allocation of RM1.525 million for tahfiz in Sabah.
