KOTA KINABALU: Families affected by the recent fire in Sandakan will receive financial assistance from both federal and state authorities, with additional support extended to schoolchildren impacted by the incident.
The Prime Minister has approved a compassionate aid payment of RM1,500 for each affected household, involving about 300 families, with total allocations estimated at RM450,000.
The funds will be channelled through the Implementation Coordination Unit of the Prime Minister’s Department (ICU JPM) and the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA).
At the state level, the Sabah government will provide RM1,000 to each affected family, while the Yayasan Kebajikan Sabah will also contribute RM1,000 per household.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education has announced targeted assistance for students affected by the fire.
A special aid of RM300 will be given to each Malaysian student impacted, benefiting 454 students across 12 schools.
The assistance is aimed at easing the burden on families and ensuring that students can continue their education with minimal disruption following the disaster.
The fire, which affected hundreds of homes, has prompted a multi-agency response to support victims as recovery efforts continue.
