City came alive with burst of colors of traditional costumes

KOTA KINABALU: The city centre came alive with a burst of colours as participants paraded through the streets in their respective traditional costumes, each representing the rich identity and heritage of Sabah’s diverse ethnic communities.

From intricate beadwork to vibrant textiles, the procession which was held in conjunction with Sabah Ethnic Day 6.0, transformed the surroundings into a moving showcase of culture and tradition.

Despite the sweltering heat and uncomfortable conditions, participants remained undeterred, marching on with pride and enthusiasm.

The hot weather did little to dampen their spirits as they endured the discomfort to present their identities and traditions to the public.

Sabah Youth Development, Sports and Creative Economy Minister Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan said the programme serves as an important platform to promote the uniqueness of local cultures and strengthen ties between the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sabah and the multi-ethnic community.

“This programme not only brings together 35 ethnic groups in Sabah, but also provides an opportunity for cultural bodies to promote their respective heritage as tourism attractions with international potential.

“The participation of 182 ethnic association leaders in this programme also reflects the strength of cultural diversity, which is a key asset for Sabah’s tourism industry,” he said during a press conference held at Dataran Deasoka on Saturday.

He added that the programme also highlights Sabah as a model of unity through cultural diversity.

“This programme complements ongoing efforts to promote Visit Malaysia Year and serves as an early preparation towards Visit Sabah Year 2027,” he said.
