KOTA KINABALU:The Court of Appeal's decision to allow a stay of execution over Sabah's 40 per cent federal revenue entitlement should not stop nor delay the current efforts to implement the payment and review.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Sabah and Sarawak) Datuk Mustapha Sakmud said he urged the treasury secretary-general and the Sabah state secretary to continue the ongoing process of calculations, data verification and technical negotiations.
"In reality, this process involves complex assessments over a long period and requires thorough examination of financial data as well as historical records.
"With the additional time following this stay, both parties now have more room to ensure that every aspect is examined in detail, transparently and with integrity.
"As such, I am of the view that the momentum that has been built should not be stopped. Instead, it must be strengthened so that a fair and accurate formula, as well as the payment amount, can be finalised as soon as possible," he said in a statement.
This morning, The Court of Appeal today allowed the federal government's application to stay a High Court order requiring a review of Sabah's 40 per cent revenue entitlement.

Mustapha, who is also Sabah Pakatan Harapan chairman, said that the Prime Minister had called for the 40 per cent issue to be resolved comprehensively, based on the spirit of the Federal Constitution and fairness to Sabah.
"Our commitment is clear — to ensure Sabah's rights are implemented through a responsible, fact-based approach and close cooperation between the state and federal governments.
"At the same time, all parties must also take into account the country's financial situation in addressing the economic challenges arising from the conflict in the Middle East.
"The priority now is to minimise the impact of the crisis while ensuring the welfare of the people continues to be safeguarded."
