KOTA KINABALU: Sabah will continue efforts to eradicate hardcore poverty in the state, said the Yang diPertua Negeri, Tun Musa Aman.

"The efforts will be strengthened under SMJ 2.0 through five main intervention pillars: housing, education, employment, welfare, as well as entrepreneurship and training.

"Medium- and long-term interventions will be implemented in an integrated manner to ensure the income of hardcore poor household heads increases sustainably.

"To strengthen the rural economic ecosystem, the state government will develop four new township projects in Penangah (Tongod), Melalap (Tenom), Ulu Dusun (Sandakan) and Beluran," he said in his opening policy speech for the state legislative assembly sitting.

Musa added that focus will also be given to physical planning and land use through a review of the Sabah State Structure Plan and District Plans to ensure a balanced and well-planned development.

The state government will continue various initiatives in education, healthcare, housing and finance to improve well-being and ensure underprivileged groups are not left behind.

Basic facilities will be improved and welfare services enhanced for children, the elderly and persons with disabilities.

The Sabah Autism Centre Initiative (PAUS) will be expanded to Tawau, Sandakan, Kudat and Beaufort to provide early intervention services and support for children with autism and their parents.

The state government will also introduce day care centres (Merpati).

Meanwhile, to enhance food security, the agricultural sector will continue to be modernised.

He said emphasis will be placed on implementing the Padi Revolution Programme and developing biotechnology to improve efficiency and production quality.

In line with this, the state government will introduce the Rural Agricultural Economic Revolution Initiative (RAER) 2025-2030 as a strategic step.

"A new programme under RAER, the Kitchen Garden Programme, has been introduced to encourage household-level agricultural production by using available residential space.

"This initiative not only helps reduce the cost of living but also fosters a culture of agriculture within the community."
