KOTA KINABALU: Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), through Hospital Universiti Malaysia Sabah (HUMS), has strengthened its international strategic collaboration with Fujifilm Malaysia through the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) to establish the Advanced HUMS Endoscopic Training Centre.

The centre will serve as a platform to enhance endoscopy training, expand knowledge-sharing, organise professional workshops and support research activities involving HUMS.

UMS vice-chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Kasim Mansor said the collaboration marked an important step in strengthening medical education and training in line with global healthcare technology advancements.

“Through the establishment of the Advanced HUMS Endoscopic Training Centre, UMS and HUMS will be able to strengthen clinical training, particularly in endoscopy, with support from industry expertise and the latest technology.

“The training centre will also become an important platform for knowledge-sharing, professional development, joint research, as well as workshops and seminars involving academics, medical officers and industry experts,” he said.

His speech at the MoA signing ceremony between UMS and Fujifilm (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd at the HUMS Primary Medical Centre on Tuesday was delivered by HUMS director Associate Professor Dr Malehah Mohd Noh.

Kasim said the collaboration would also provide opportunities for UMS and HUMS staff and medical officers to undergo overseas training while bringing international expertise to the university to strengthen specialised development in related fields.

Through the collaboration, HUMS also received a RM40,000 education grant to support academic and professional development activities.

Fujifilm Malaysia will also loan a Fujifilm 7000s Endoscopy Tower to HUMS for clinical teaching and learning purposes.

Meanwhile, Fujifilm (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd managing director Kensuke Aragane said the establishment of the centre aimed to support HUMS as a centre of excellence for endoscopy in Sabah.

“This collaboration will focus on training, workshops and research activities to ensure the latest medical technology can be utilised optimally.

“We believe innovation is meaningful only when it benefits those who need it, and this collaboration reflects that commitment,” he said.

Also present were UMS registrar Luqman Ridha Anwar, head of the Consular Office of Japan in Kota Kinabalu Nakasuji Hisaki, and Fujifilm (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd medical systems sales executive Nor Afiqah Abd Rahim.
