PAPAR: The selection of Papar as the host for this year’s Kaamatan Festival launch is most fitting, given its status as one of Sabah’s key rice bowl areas, Chief Minister Datuk Seri PHajiji Noor said.
Elaborating on the choice of venue, he said Papar is not only known for its agricultural productivity but also for its rich cultural heritage and strong sense of community among its multi-ethnic population.
“Papar is not only abundant in its yields, but also rich in cultural values and the spirit of togetherness among its diverse communities, who live in peace and harmony. This is the true reflection of the Sabah we are proud of,” he said duirng the launching of month-long Kaamatan festival at Papar community hall here.
Hajiji added that the district has also undergone significant transformation, with several infrastructure and commercial development projects being actively implemented in areas such as Benoni and the surrounding Kinarut locality.
He said these unique qualities align closely with this year’s Kaamatan Festival theme, “Kaamatan: Harvesting Unity, Celebrating Harmony,” which underscores the importance of unity among Sabah’s diverse ethnic communities.
The Chief Minister also expressed his appreciation for the strong turnout and positive spirit shown by attendees at the launch, regardless of race or religion.
“I am pleased to see the presence and enthusiasm demonstrated by everyone here today, reflecting the unity that defines us as Sabahans,” he said.
Hajiji stressed the importance of educating the younger generation to understand, respect and embrace diversity as a foundation for harmony and unity, especially in an increasingly modern and challenging world.
At the same event, he announced an allocation of RM1 million for the construction of a covered futsal court complete with a grandstand in the district, reflecting the state government’s attentiveness to the needs and aspirations of the people.
