PAPAR: A total of RM559.85 million has been allocated to the Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry Ministry (MAFFI) this year to strengthen food security and improve Sabah’s Self-Sufficiency Rate (SSR).
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the state government has implemented and is continuing various initiatives, including the establishment of the Sabah Paddy and Rice Board and the development of paddy granaries across the state, including in Papar and nearby districts such as Membakut, Beaufort and Kuala Penyu.
He said the agriculture sector remains one of the three main pillars driving the state’s economic growth under the Sabah Maju Jaya 2.0 (SMJ 2.0) development plan, in line with the spirit of the Kaamatan Festival, which celebrates the harvest.
“This reflects the state government’s commitment to ensuring strong food security, especially amid current global economic and geopolitical uncertainties,” he said.
He was speaking at the launch of the Sabah-level Kaamatan Festival at the Dewan Masyarakat here today.
Hajiji added that the government will continue implementing various assistance initiatives to improve the people’s standard of living and socio-economic well-being, including in education, human capital development and public welfare.
He said the state government remains committed to ensuring inclusive and balanced development throughout Sabah so that all segments of society can share in the state’s prosperity.
At the same time, he encouraged the public to support local products, particularly Sabah’s agricultural produce, as part of efforts to strengthen the domestic economy.
“The progress we enjoy today would be meaningless without unity and strong cooperation among people of different races and religions in this state.
“I call on all Sabahans to continue working hand in hand with the government to realise every agenda, especially the Sabah Maju Jaya 2.0 direction,” he said.
