KUALA LUMPUR — SMJ Energy Sdn Bhd has won the “Equity Partner of the Year” award at the PETRONAS Emerald Awards 2026 for its strong contribution to Malaysia’s oil and gas industry in 2025.
The annual awards by PETRONAS recognise companies that perform well in operations, teamwork, and sustainable development in Malaysia’s upstream oil and gas sector. This year’s event was held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
SMJ Energy received the award for its close cooperation with PETRONAS and industry partners in Sabah, as well as its efforts in responsible business practices, community programmes, and good governance.
SMJ Energy chief executive officer Dionysia Kibat said the award reflects the company’s commitment to working closely with its operating partners, introducing practical and innovative ideas, and improving value from existing oil fields through cost-effective solutions.
She said the recognition showed what could be achieved through strong collaboration for both the industry and local communities.
Since starting operations in 2021, SMJ Energy has expanded its upstream oil and gas portfolio through partnerships with PETRONAS, including involvement in the Samarang Production Sharing Contract (PSC) and several exploration blocks in Sabah.
Most recently, the company acquired a 20 per cent stake in the North Sabah Enhanced Oil Recovery PSC, strengthening its involvement in Sabah’s oil-producing assets and showing its long-term commitment to the state’s oil and gas sector.
