KOTA KINABALU: A visually impaired 18-year-old from Keningau has scored 8As in the 2025 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination.
At school, Alexzander Dinus struggled more than the rest as his vision has been blurry since young due to nerve problem.
“Sometimes I see three images. If the teacher writes on the board in front of the class, it’s difficult for me to see.
“Every day I study by asking for help from teachers and friends. Sometimes, even when the teacher writes something down, I still cannot see it clearly.
“But because our teachers are kind-hearted, they patiently teach me until I understand,” he was quoted in a statement after the 2025 SPM and Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia Excellence Awards Ceremony held here yesterday.
The eldest of five siblings said the success he achieved had motivated him to pursue his dream of becoming an educator, and he hopes to further his studies at the Teacher Education Institute (IPG).
“My advice to others in the same situation as me: never give up. We may have shortcomings, but that does not mean we are weak,” he said.
Meanwhile, his father, Panis Guntalib, said the family had come to accept Alexzander’s condition after trying various treatments since he was young.
“Now we accept fate, and what matters is that he continues learning and remains confident in himself.
“To parents who have special children like this, continue giving them support and encouragement,” he said.
