Sabah, Petronas launch digital platforms to strengthen oil and gas workforce

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah state government has partnered with Petronas to strengthen the state's oil and gas workforce through the development of two online platforms aimed at improving access to employment, training and work pass services.

The national oil company funded the Permohonan Online Pekerjaan dan Latihan Dalam Industri Minyak dan Gas (Pomigas) and the Sabah Work Pass Online System, both managed by the Chief Minister's Department's Home Affairs and Research Office.

Pomigas is a centralised online platform integrated with the Sabah Jobs Portal ecosystem, providing job matching and training opportunities while connecting local talent with industry needs.

The Sabah Work Pass Online System streamlines the submission and management of work pass applications in Sabah by allowing employers to submit documents, track application status and facilitate processing with immigration and labour authorities.

Pomigas began operations earlier this year, while the Sabah Work Pass Online System will be operational from Sept 1.

The two systems were launched by Chief Minister's Department State, Home Affairs and Research secretary Datuk Awang Shahminan Awang Sahari during the Sabah Oil & Gas Industry Talent Alignment Forum (SOGITAF) 2.0 today.

Also present was Petronas Human Resource for Upstream and Malaysia Petroleum Management senior general manager Maria Teo.

Awang Shahminan said the platforms reflected the collaborative efforts between the Sabah government and Petronas to strengthen the state's oil and gas workforce ecosystem.

Petronas Sabah and Labuan Regional Office general manager Datuk Siti Ayu Abdul Wahab said the company remained committed to developing Sabah's local talent through initiatives that enhance workforce capabilities and improve access to industry opportunities.

"Petronas remains focused on unlocking the potential of Sabah's local talent by supporting initiatives that enhance workforce capabilities, improve access to industry opportunities, and contribute towards building a skilled and future-ready oil and gas workforce," she said.
