Sabah, Scoot forge three-year tourism partnership

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Tourism Board (STB) and Scoot have signed a three-year Memorandum of Collaboration (MoC) to strengthen air connectivity and jointly promote Sabah to travellers from Singapore and the airline's wider international network.

Sabah Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Datuk Jafry Ariffin said the partnership would help strengthen international connectivity and support the continued growth of the state's tourism industry.

"Air connectivity remains a key driver of tourism growth, and collaborations with airline partners such as Scoot are important in making Sabah more accessible to international travellers.

"By strengthening our partnership, we are creating greater opportunities to increase visitor arrivals and showcase Sabah's unique tourism experiences to a wider audience," he said in a statement today.

The MoC was signed at Scoot's office in Singapore by STB chief executive officer Julinus Jeffery Jimit and Scoot director of Marketing, Public Relations and Loyalty Lau Hui Ling.

The signing was witnessed by Scoot chief commercial officer Calvin Chan and Deputy High Commissioner of Malaysia to Singapore Ismail Mohamad Bkri, representing Malaysian High Commissioner Datin Paduka Anizan Siti Hajjar Adnin.

Also present were STB deputy chief executive officer Tay Shu Lan and Tourism Malaysia Singapore Office deputy director Muadz Samat.

Jafry said Singapore remained an important tourism market for Sabah as well as a major regional aviation hub connecting travellers from Asia and beyond.

"This partnership will help expand Sabah's reach and encourage more visitors to discover the state's diverse attractions, from its natural wonders and cultural heritage to its world-class adventure experiences," he said.

Scoot chief commercial officer Calvin Chan said Malaysia had always been an important market for the airline and the partnership would deepen its relationship with STB.

"We hope that this collaboration will drive even more awareness of the Malaysian cities that Scoot serves and ultimately support the broader tourism economy in both Malaysia and Singapore," he said.

Chan said Scoot's direct services to Kota Kinabalu placed it in a strong position to provide connections for more travellers from Malaysia to Singapore and its wider network.

Under the partnership, STB and Scoot will undertake joint marketing and promotional initiatives to increase destination awareness, stimulate travel demand and encourage more travellers to visit Sabah.

Jafry said strengthening strategic partnerships with airlines and industry players would remain a priority in supporting sustainable tourism growth and positioning Sabah as a preferred destination in the region.
