KOTA KINABALU: Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Star) remains aligned with the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS)-led state government, its president Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan said today.
Jeffrey said he had taken note of reports that Parti Warisan was exploring possible cooperation with Star and Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM) ahead of the upcoming general election.
"There is nothing wrong with anyone expressing his or her views or being keen to work together for a common cause for the benefit of Sabah.
"I am flattered to know that Star is viewed as an important potential political player in the coming polls.
"We may give serious thought to what Warisan has said," he told the New Straits Times, while affirming that Star remained aligned with the current ruling state government.
Jeffrey, who is the Tambunan assemblyman, quit Star's membership in GRS ahead of the Sabah election in November last year.
Despite this, the former deputy chief minister was appointed chairman of the Sabah Agricultural Marketing Authority (SAMA) on April 10 this year.
Star acting deputy president and Bingkor assemblyman Datuk Mohd Ishak Ayub is an assistant finance minister in the Sabah government.
During the Kaamatan celebrations, Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal attended Jeffrey's harvest festival in Tambunan, while KDM acting president Priscella Peter was spotted at a Warisan celebration at Bukit Kokol near here.
Both leaders said they were merely attending the respective celebrations.
In the Dewan Rakyat, Jeffrey is the sole Star MP, representing Keningau, while KDM's Datuk Wetrom Bahanda represents Kota Marudu.
KDM is understood to be preparing a statement on the latest political developments.
