KOTA KINABALU: The Health Ministry and Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) are preparing a pilot medication-drone delivery service in Tawau, with the launch and landing sites identified.
Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said the launch site had been identified at Tawau Health Clinic, while landing sites had been identified at MCMC's National Information Dissemination Centre (Nadi) centres in Sungai Imam and Tinagat.
"The Digital Health Division (BKD), in collaboration with the Pharmacy Programme, will conduct a workshop and training on procedures or SOPs involving healthcare personnel at the Tawau Health Clinic and the Nadi centres," he said during a press conference after the Ministry of Health Training Institutes (ILKKM) convocation ceremony at Universiti Malaysia Sabah here.
Dzulkefly said the ministry and MCMC had also appointed Alpha Catalyst as the official evaluator for the pilot project to assess the effectiveness of the initiative.
"If everything is in place for the pilot project, an official launch ceremony to be jointly organised by the Health Ministry and the Ministry of Communications will be held in September or October this year," he said.
The pilot is consistent with the previously reported plan for MCMC and the Health Ministry to begin drone medicine deliveries in Tawau around September or October.
