PAPAR: A traditional kuih cincin maker in Kampung Melugus here has spent the past 27 years preserving the heritage snack, maintaining the traditional method of production she learned from the local community more than two decades ago.

Rabiatul Enterprise owner Aini Amil said she began making kuih cincin independently in 1999 after learning the skills from members of the local community.

She said the business continues to use traditional methods to preserve the snack's authentic taste and quality.

"Its speciality lies in the use of nipah sugar, while the preparation process must be carried out carefully to ensure its quality and taste remain consistent with the recipe passed down through generations," she said when met by the media here on Saturday.

Aini said the business, which is now in its 27th year, had received guidance from the Agriculture Department and related agencies to help expand the enterprise while maintaining the quality of its products.

She said her kuih cincin had attracted demand from several districts in Sabah, including Tawau and Sandakan, as well as orders from Singapore, Brunei and Peninsular Malaysia.

"Singapore once requested up to 20 cartons. There have also been orders from Brunei and Peninsular Malaysia," she said.

However, Aini said rising costs of raw materials and operations remained a challenge, resulting in the number of workers being reduced from 12 to 10.

"Despite the rising costs, I remain committed to continuing the production of kuih cincin and ensuring its quality is maintained.

"I hope my children will be able to continue the business so that the recipe and skills of making kuih cincin will not be lost over time," she said.

During the programme, participants of the Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang (KMJG) convoy were given the opportunity to try their hand at making kuih cincin under Aini's guidance.

The activity provided the participants with first-hand experience of the traditional production process while highlighting efforts to preserve Sabah's food heritage.

Also present was Sabah Information Department director Jainisah Mohd Noor and KMJG convoy participants.
