KOTA KINABALU: Gabungan Rakyat Sabah's (GRS) target of contesting more than 15 parliamentary seats in the state could serve as a basis for negotiations, said Sabah Pakatan Harapan (PH) chief Datuk Mustapha Sakmud.

The Sepanggar member of parliament said Sabah had 25 parliamentary seats, leaving 10 seats for further discussion.

"What is important is that we want to continue the government's efforts and existing development work. That is what matters," he said.

Mustapha said PH appreciated its cooperation with GRS and that the matter could be discussed further.

At the federal level, GRS is part of the unity government.

The six-party coalition currently has seven MPs, while PH has three.

On Tuesday, GRS secretary-general Datuk Armizan Ali said that based on simulations of last year's state election results, GRS could win at least 15 seats.

Mustapha said he believed Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and the GRS leadership remained open to discussions in the interest of Sabahans.

"We have not set a specific number. However, we respect GRS's views and can discuss and assess the respective strengths of each party in those areas.

"I think the chief minister and the GRS team are always open to discussions for the good of the people of Sabah," he said.
