KOTA KINABALU: Sabah and Sarawak Affairs Minister Datuk Mustapha Sakmud hopes the 2027 Budget will maintain or slightly increase development allocations for Sabah and Sarawak.
Sabah still needed substantial funding for basic infrastructure, particularly for recurring floods, road and water issues, he said.
"For the tabling of budget tomorrow, we hope that there will be good news for Sabah and Sarawak.
"As I have mentioned before, we want development funds, in particular, to either remain at the current level or be increased slightly," he told the media after handing over disaster relief aid to Sepanggar constituents at Kampung Rampayan community hall near here.
The Sepanggar MP also called for the Auditor-General's recommendations on the Sabah Pan Borneo Highway to be acted upon immediately and used to improve project management.
"I ask the Works Ministry, contractors and relevant agencies to increase their efforts to improve the effectiveness of project management.
"Take these audit recommendations positively and implement the findings. Let us use them as lessons so that similar problems do not recur in future projects," he said, referring to the decade-long project, which has recorded only 11 per cent completion.
Mustapha also hoped Phase 2 of the Kampung Rampayan flood mitigation project would be prioritised, saying he had discussed expediting the project with the Economy Minister.
He said the project, announced under Budget 2026, would continue Phase 1, which was almost completed, and help address recurring floods along the Rampayan River.
