KOTA KINABALU: Sabah-based community radio station KUPIKUPI FM has e xpanded into Peninsular Malaysia, giving Sabahans and Sarawakians living there another way to stay connected to home.
OOGA X chief executive officer Lester Calvin Miol said the move was intended to connect communities across the country rather than compete with existing broadcasters.
“We want our fellow Sabahans and Sarawakians living in Peninsular Ma laysia to have an avenue they can tune in to whenever they miss home.
"At the same time, we want to give our brothers and sisters in West Malaysia an opportunity to get to know Borneo better.
"We are not here to compete with or dominate anyone. We are here to join the party, share our culture, music and stories, and contribute to Malaysia’s diverse broadcasting landscape,” he said.
Launched in January 2016, KUPIKUPI FM Sabah broadcasts across parts of Sabah, including Kota Kinabalu, Penampang, Papar, Beaufort, Kuala Penyu, Tuaran and Kota Belud.
It was established to serve local communities, promote homegrown talent and provide a platform for local voices.
The station now broadcasts in parts of Negeri Sembilan, including Seremban, Selangor, including Sepang, Klang, Shah Alam, Petaling Jaya and Kajang, as well as Putrajaya.
