PENAMPANG: A collapsed stretch of road, measuring 20m, at Kampung Timpoloun, near here, put a damper on Kaamatan celebrations yesterday.
The incident affected traffic between Tambunan and Kota Kinabalu.
Penampang member of parliament Darell Leiking said the incident occurred at 5am yesterday.
"I was informed that several houses were affected by a landslip but villager Henry Gumisi's home almost collapsed," he said, adding that several other inter-connected roads were also affected.
Darell said the landslip was believed to have been caused by earthworks adjacent to the road.
"I am glad that Public Works Department and Fire and Rescue Department had taken prompt action.
"Engineers and workers were already at the scene when I arrived and they are building a temporary road by the side of the road.
"As of now, people have to walk across to the other side of the road to travel to their destinations," he said, adding that there was no casualty.
This is the second road collapse in two days, the first being a section of the road near Ranau in the west coast on Thursday morning.
