KOTA KINABALU: The trial of a restaurant manager who married the 13-year-old girl he allegedly raped will proceed from July 1 to 4.
Riduan Masmud, 40, was charged on Feb 28 with raping a minor inside a car parked by the roadside in Inanam, near here, about 10am on Feb 18.
When the case was mentioned on May 21, his counsel Loretto J. Padua informed the court that a syariah marriage certificate had been presented to the investigating officer confirming their marriage.
The Sessions Court had then given the prosecution until yesterday to decide whether it wanted to proceed with the charge against Riduan after the girl withdrew the report against him on April 28.
Yesterday when Senior Federal Counsel Jamil Aripin informed the court that the prosecution was proceeding with the charge, judge Ummu Khatom Abd Samad fixed June 20 for case management and extended the accused's bail of RM8,000.
On Monday, Riduan was charged with three counts of bribing the victim’s father to retract rape report against him. He pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
Sessions judge Caroline Bee Majanil set bail at RM2,000 with one surety pending mention on June 21.
