KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Computer Service department is among agencies in the Asia Pacific region short listed in the "best security strategy" category of the annual IT Excellence Award 2013.

Its director Dr Mingu Jumaan said the department, representing Malaysia, would be competing with five other leading international agencies.

They are CLP Power Hong Kong Limited, Kumpulan DBS, Institut Pendidikan Kebangsaan Singapura, Procter & Gamble International Operations SA (ROHQ) and Standard Chartered Bank.

The award is organised by MIS Asia Fairfax Business Media Asia (FBM Asia) and IDC Asia/Pacific.

It will be presented at the Chief Information Officer Summit 2013 to be held in Singapore on July 31.

The award specifically recognises organisations for management excellence in using IT to drive business value and to attain business goals.

The evaluation was made based on nominees' performance in project execution, maintenance and enhancement of business-IT alignment and cost-benefit ratios.

"It is a significant achievement not only for the department but also for the state civil service as a whole as it is not easy to be listed along with other competing international agencies.

"The international recognition also indicates that the department has set up an effective ICT security system for the government," he told reporters after the launch of the state  Food and Agriculture Ministry's ICT talk programme here on Wednesday.
