KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Cultural and Heritage Association will be presenting the Malaysia Borneo Cultural Festival in Kuala Lumpur to build unity and understanding among Malaysians, said its organising committee's communication director Dr Azlina Ekat.
“Themed ‘Bridging Cultures and Traditions’, the celebration will include crafts, costumes, dances and songs from Sabah and Sarawak.
"It is also a prelude of the annual Sabah's Kaamatan celebration in May and Sarawak's Gawai festival in June ,"she added.
The four-day celebration will be held starting on May 7 and is expected to be graced by Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz.
The association, which is based in peninsular Malaysia, is also collaborating with the Panggau Sungai Events and the well-known international fashion designer Von Jolly Couture.
She said that the unique cultural festival was to be held in Kuala Lumpur as the strategic location would give wider coverage for networking, partnership and marketing purposes for tourism operators using the now famous tagline “Celebrating 1Malaysia Truly Asia”.
"We will extend the programme to tourism industry players such as hoteliers, entrepreneurs, transporters, tourist guide bodies and others to promote the event.
"This is to provide an opportunity for tourists who do not extend their visits to East Malaysia to witness, enjoy and gain greater understanding and appreciation of the rich diversity cultural heritages of Malaysian Borneo,".
The organiser will also have roadshows on the event in Miri (March 1 to 2), Sandakan (March 8 to 9); here (March 15 to 16); Kuching (March 22 to 23), Georgetown (March 29 to 30); Johor Baru (April 5 to 6) and Kuala Lumpur (April 12 to 13).
