KOTA KINABALU: Two robbers shot dead in Penampang, near here, on Thursday were not among the five suspects sought by the Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) believed to be involved in cross-border crimes.
The five wanted suspects were known as Nikson, Badong, Bocai or Komander Black), Ali or Brown and Alex.
They were being sought to assist with investigations into the Singamata Reef Resort kidnapping near Semporna in April, abductions and murder of a policeman in Pulau Mabul on July 12.
Its commander, Datuk Abdul Rashid Harun, said as of now, none of the wanted suspects had been arrested.
“To date, we have detained 13 people, both locals and immigrants, to get more information to trace those men.
“Esscom will give its full cooperation to the police in investigating whether those suspects had connections with the recent shoot-out in Penampang.”
On Friday, Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman had said the two robbers were high on the police’s wanted list, believed to be responsible for at least three armed robberies in banks and goldsmiths the previous month.
He said more information of the case’s development would be revealed at a press conference next Friday.
