EcoWorld rewards 25 top UPSR achievers

KOTA KINABALU: EcoWorld Foundation rewarded 25 students from six schools at its inaugural Ujian Penilaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) Excellence Award ceremony here yesterday.
   The charity under the Eco World Development Group Berhad was launched in last September to help underprivileged and deserving schoolchildren. Its chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye said the award ceremony was to recognise the achievements  of its adopted students.
  "There are three Excellence Awards two Outstanding Awards and 20 Most Improved Awards.The winners get between RM100 and RM200, a dictionary and a motivational book each,". 
   Lee said that the ceremony also acknowledged four schoolteachers and SJK(C) Yick Nam won the Best School Category for its contribution to the development of schoolchildren.
  The foundation spends RM5 million a year on 3,000 primary and secondary schools students including 200 from Sabah.
  "Each student receives between RM1,000 and RM1,100 in uniforms, stationary, tuition fee and meal at schools.
The foundation also organises UPSR motivational camp and home visits," he added.
  Present were EcoWorld foundation chief executive officer Datuk Liew Siong Sing and Eco WorldDevelopment Group Berhad chief operating officer Datuk S Rajoo.
