KOTA KINABALU: Local talents chosen
in an audition here will stand the chance to represent Malaysia for the 19th
World Championship of Performing Arts in Hollywood, USA in July.
The world championship is a
global competition participated by more than 75,000 individuals from over 50
countries every year.
Organised by Matme Sdn Bhd and National
Department for Culture and Arts, the audition named as
“Worldstars, Road To
Hollywood” will seek for outstanding performers from all over the country.
In Sabah, the two-day audition
will be handled by the Society of Performing Arts Kota Kinabalu Sabah (SPArKS)
and to be held at Institut Seni Sabah next weekend.
SPArKs advisor Cheong Kok An said it was a
gateway for people with great passion in arts to pursue their dreams and
promote culture in Sabah to the world.
“For the past 10 years of
Malaysia’s participation in the championship, our team from Sabah had helped
the country to win medals.
“Among them were a band who
called themselves as ‘Rhythm of Borneo’, dancer Tang Sook Kuan and a team won
best prize for wearing Sabah traditional costumes during a parade,” he added.
Malaysians aged 15 and above
could choose any category including vocals, dance, music, modelling, acting and
variety act to perform during the audition.
Participating fee is RM90 per
person regardless whether they are performing solo or in group. The payment can
be made on the audition day starting from 10am to 6pm.
Cheong said there would not be
any fixed number of participants from Sabah to be chosen to join the two-week workshop
in Kuala Lumpur in preparation for the championship.
“The panel will consider to take
in performers who could potentially contribute winning to the Malaysia team.
“Finalists are going to be benefitted
a lot from the workshop as the programme will be handled by renowned and award
winning artists.”
