Killed in silat show

LABUAN: A teenage boy, who was stabbed with keris while performing silat at a wedding, treated his family members extraordinarily well before the incident.

Mohd Amil Zulkarnain Jaafar, 17, was stabbed with a Keris by his cousin and died at a hospital on Saturday.

His father Jaafar Bugal said the eldest of four siblings, had wanted burgers for his supper two days before the tragedy.

“But upon coming home, he woke his two younger sisters and gave them the burgers.

“He even gave a kiss at his mother’s and my cheeks the day after,” said the father, adding Mohd Amil was buried yesterday after a post-mortem.

Jaafar said his son, who studied at a vocational college, also prepared Nasi Lemak for the family in the morning before leaving for the performance.

However, Jaafar missed the breakfast with Mohd Amil as he was bathing.

“We were aware that the performance had a scene which one of them pretend to be dead, but never knew that it became real.

“I was shocked to hear from relatives when they called me , saying that Amil was stabbed by his cousin during the performance,” he said.
A post-mortem revealed the cause of death due to excessive loss of blood from a stab wound on Amil's left chest. 

Labuan acting police chief Deputy Superintendent Mohd Ibrahim Mohd Ghani said they received report from hospital informing about the incident at 1.23pm on Saturday.

“Initial investigation revealed the suspect, who is the victim’s cousin, was performing silat with Mohd Amil at about 1120am.

“During the performance, the suspect believed to stab and cause wound to the victim,” he added.

He said suspect had been detained for further investigation and the case would be investigated causing death by negligence.
