KOTA KINABALU: A new mother greeted 2016 with a bundle of joy.

Mailin Stanisus, 24, from Tambunan delivered a healthy baby boy at the Likas Women and Children’s hospital at about 3am.

“My due date was supposed to be on Jan 13, but I had labour signs on New Year’s Eve.

“I was admitted to the labour room at the hospital at about 4pm,” she said, adding she was happy to have a New Year baby in the family.

Her son whose name is Christian Sam Jr weighed 3.4-kilogramme during birth.

Previously, Mailin was working at the Penang Adventist hospital as a radiologist.

“I quit my job recently to be with my husband in Sabah and so that I can concentrate on taking care of the baby by myself.

“I believe there will be suitable vacancy for me in Sabah when I am ready to go back to work in future,” she said.

The mother was accompanied by her mother-in-law Erlyn Siagian, 78, who was a former matron at several hospitals in the state.

As of 4pm, there were 15 babies including seven boys and eight girls born at the hospital today.
