PENAMPANG: MCA's central leadership will provide full support to Penampang chief Datuk Francis Goh, who is tipped to be the Kepayan candidate for Barisan Nasional in the 14th general election.
Kepayan, which is under the Penampang parliamentary constituency, is currently held by Dr Edwin Bosi from DAP.
MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said Goh had proven his ability to lead the people and the division by being vocal about current issues.
“Goh is well known among the people for his philanthropy work especially in community buildings and education.
“Goh has close relationships with government officials and community leaders, and it is evident with the presence of grassroots leaders” he said during a 100-table dinner reception with senior citizens at Buhavan square at Donggongon town here on Sunday.
Liow said the reception was a Chinese cultural in honouring the elderly people.
Earlier in the opening speech, Goh said MCA was still relevant for the people of Sabah.
“Among the contributions include donations made to religious bodies and Chinese schools, building of Tunku Abdul Rahman University College at Alamesra in state capital and defending the rights of the Chinese.
“Those gestures show the party are doing something rather than just talk like oppositions,” he added.
Liaw also presented donations of RM300,000 each for Ranau earthquake fund and SJKC Pei Wen in Ranau.
