By Olivia MiwilKOTA KINABALU: A former Labuan Public Works department director was charged in the Special Corruption Court yesterday with receiving vacation packages and cash worth about RM8,000 two years ago.
Ismail Che Ros was alleged to have received room and golf packages valued at RM2,880.90 from project manager Teoh Hon Chun at a five-star hotel here, between Aug 5 and 7 two years ago.
He was also alleged to have received RM5,000 on Aug 6 from the same person.
Both supposedly knew each other because of a construction project at Kampung Gersik in Labuan.
Ismail pleaded not guilty to both charges.
Ismail, who is attached to Melaka Public Works Department, arrived at the court around 9am with Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission officers.
MACC prosecuting officer Rozanna Abd Hadi suggested a bail of RM20,000.
Counsel Zahir Shah pleaded for a reduction, saying that the accused had to support his wife and a schoolgoing child.
Judge Abu Bakar Manat set bail at RM10,000 and ordered Ismail to surrender his passport to the court and report once a month to the MACC office in Putrajaya.
He fixed July 17 for mention.
