KOTA KINABALU: An integrated operation to inspect implementation of Sales and Services Tax (SST) in Sabah will be conducted on Monday.
Sabah Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (KPDNHEP) deputy director V. Ravichandran said the operation, which will be conducted statewide, will also involve Customs department and local authorities.
“There are enforcement officers from our ministry conducting checks on the ground as SST comes into force today.
“For now (at press time) there are not many complaints (from consumers),” he said when contacted.
Ravichandran said the crowd turnouts today at major shopping malls was low.
“It could be that government servants had received earlier salary last month or due to long weekend off this week many have returned to their hometowns.
“We will check on the implementation this Monday and Tuesday,” he said, adding they had yet to have any name for the operation.
Meanwhile price comparison on certain items before and after implementation of SST at major supermarkets showed there was not much fluctuation.
A salesperson at a hypermarket, who declined to be named, said for the first six days all items from today will remain the same.
“After that there will be adjustment for some items depending on price that our suppliers will give to the company,” he said.
