KOTA KINABALU: Parti Warisan Sabah’s candidate in the 14th General Election (GE14) in the Kimanis parliamentary seat is prepared for a possible by-election.
However, Datuk Karim Bujang said it would be up to party leadership to decide whether or not to retain him as the candidate for the by-election.
He was commenting on the Election Court's ruling on Datuk Seri Anifah Aman's victory in Kimanis in GE14, which was declared null and void.
The election petition was filed by Karim 15 months ago to challenge Anifah’s win.
The former foreign minister’s legal team, following the Election Court’s decision today, said that they had been instructed by their client to appeal the decision at the Federal Court.
"I will leave it to the Warisan leadership (to decide) who should be fielded if there is any by-election, " Karim said at a press conference.
In the May 9 polls last year, Anifah won the Kimanis parliamentary constituency with a razor-thin 156-vote majority.
In the three-cornered fight, Anifah secured 11,942 votes against Karim who garnered 11,786 votes and Parti Harapan’s Jaafar Ismail, who received1,300 votes.
