KOTA KINABALU: Instead of coming up with a song to liven up the mood of the upcoming Kaamatan or harvest festival, husband-and-wife musical duo Rich Gimbang and Velvet Aduk have put out a new single as a tribute to all the frontliners who risk their lives to combat the Covid-19 pandemic.
Titled "Dunia Baru", Velvet who penned the new tune, said the song reflected what the whole world was currently facing.
"For some, the current situation we are in feels like a great depression. We have seen unfortunate souls who have lost their source of income and try to get by, to a point where they feel that there is just no way out.
"We also acknowledge that the frontliners are doing their absolute best to stop the pandemic while the rest of us play our part by staying safe at home.
"This is all new to us and we just want to let people know that we are all in this together," she said in a press statement.
The couple hopes that the uplifting tune will bring some cheer and assurance to all in embracing the new normal.
Rich said the idea came about after they received a message from a healthcare worker asking for a new song from them.
And it took them only three weeks to complete it.
"The song production was mostly done from our humble home studio in Kota Kinabalu; and Jedi, a friend based in Kuala Lumpur helped us to mix and master the song.
"We are very grateful to Sabah Health department director Datuk Dr Christina Rundi and all the hardworking staff in Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Kota Kinabalu for collaborating with us during this Movement Control Order (MCO) period," said the Estranged vocalist.
"Dunia Baru", released on Velvet's YouTube channel last week, has since garnered more than 10,000 views.
