KOTA KINABALU: The authorities in charge of Likas Sports Complex which has been turned into a quarantine centre have taken the necessary measures to improve its condition and facilities.
Kota Kinabalu member of parliament Chan Foong Hin said there had been a lot of debate over the condition of the centre.
The centre, which the state government had spent some RM2 million to accommodate about 170 patients, saw an influx of 120 patients under investigation and surveillance, about a week ago.
The surge in number for returning students to be quarantined was due to changes in the standard operating procedures (SOP) following cases of those being home quarantined who defied the order and later tested positive for Covid-19.
However, due to inadequate number of centres, the SOP has been reverted whereby returning students who tested negative were allowed to confine themselves at home for 14 days.
"The centre was indeed caught off guard as there was no prior indication of such an influx of patients for quarantine.
"We have forwarded the complaints received on social media regarding the quarantine centre, to the frontliners," said Chan, adding that he had contacted a person-in-charge from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital to get more details about the current situation.
Among the improvements made include the setting up of a QR code scanning system for complaints and feedback to be channeled, consistent supply of clean drinking water from dispensers and psychological first aid services.
Chan said besides providing brand new beds and linen, there were also cleaning services at the centre available every three hours, daily.
"As for cleanliness and to avoid the spread of Covid-19 in the centre, briefing and constant reminders are given to those in quarantine to ensure social distancing and good self- hygiene standards are practised, both in the cubicle and shared bathrooms.
"Their daily temperature is also monitored to ensure speedy action can be taken in the event of any positive cases found."
