PENAMPANG: A foreigner who is under police custody has tested positive for Covid-19.
District police chief deputy superintendent Haris Ibrahim said the 26-year-old man was detained during an operation dubbed Ops Dadu at the Kivatu Plaza, here, on June 10.
The man was arrested under the Common Gaming House Act 1953 and Immigration Act 1959/63.
"He was brought to a health clinic in Penampang for a Covid-19 swab test, which is a normal procedure for any detainee.
"About a week later, his result came back positive for Covid-19 and he was immediately taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for further treatment," he said in a statement.
Haris said police personnel and other inmates who had contact with him have been checked by the state Health Department.
"The state health department had also disinfected and sanitised the police headquarters to prevent the spread of the virus."
