PENAMPANG: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal has the prerogative to dissolve the state assembly due to political uncertainty in the state.

Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) Supreme Council Member Terrence Siambun disagreed with former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's Facebook post in which the latter questioned Mohd Shafie's decision.

"In view of the political uncertainty surrounding the state, it is the prerogative of the Chief Minister Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal to return the power back to Sabahans by advising the Head of State on the dissolution of the State Assembly in order to pave the way for a snap election.

"(Tan Sri) Musa Aman claimed that he has 33 state assemblymen with him but what will happen if three of them suddenly make a u-turn by supporting Shafie right after the former takes his oath as the new Chief Minister?

"Najib should be very happy because Musa has been given a chance to prove himself as a worthy assemblyman in the upcoming election instead of being sour about it," he said in a statement.

Siambun added that the defection of several assemblymen also meant that the people should be given the opportunity to elect their representatives during the snap polls.

"It is the perfect time for Sabahans to use their power to punish those disgraceful assemblymen who had crossed over to Musa despite denying intending to do so earlier when asked.

"The snap elections can put an end to Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) and Umno's incessant attempts to destabilise Sabah, politically," he said, adding people of Sabah should not listen to Najib who was preparing to make his appeal on his conviction in the SRC International trial.

At press time, the Election Commission has yet to receive official notification from Sabah Legislative Assembly speaker Datuk Syed Abas Syed Ali.
