KOTA KINABALU: Up to 229 of 341 Covid-19 cases in the state capital are from the Menggatal Temporary Detention Centre cluster, while another 42 are from the Kepayan Prison cluster.
State Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said based on reports from the state Health Department (JKNS), Sabah recorded 678 new coronavirus cases and 12 new deaths in the past 24 hours.
Nine of the deaths were in Kota Kinabalu, and Kudat, Tawau and Sandakan recorded one each.
"Today, 549 Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospitals and low-risk treatment centres here, with 3,139 still receiving treatment," he said in a press statement.
Masidi, who is also state Finance Minister II and Local Government and Housing Minister, added that the Health Ministry has also given an allocations to set up two molecular laboratories at Tawau and Lahad Datu hospitals.
Both facilities, which are expected to be operational early next month, can carry out 200 Covid-19 tests per day.
"JKNS has also received an additional 200,000 RTK-Antigen test kits from the Health Ministry, of which 117,825 kits were distributed to hospitals and district health offices.
"At the same time, a temporary Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) testing facility has been set up at the Kubota health clinic in Tawau," he said, adding that the facility will be used from next week.
