KOTA KINABALU: A new Covid-19 cluster in Tawau has been identified as involving close contacts of co-workers at a frozen food shop outlet.

Sabah Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said the Jalan SEDCO cluster has 14 cases.

This cluster was detected through close contacts involving colleagues at a shop selling frozen food items.

"Out of 186 cases reported today, 109 or 58.6 per cent is from close contacts screening, symptomatic people (31 cases), new and existing clusters (30) and the rest is categorised as 'others'," he said in a statement.

The highest number of cases come from Kota Kinabalu and Tawau (40), followed by Penampang (22), Putatan (13), Sandakan and Kalabakan (10), Papar (9), Lahad Datu (8) , Kudat (7), Tuaran (6), Ranau and Keningau (4), Semporna, Beluran and Kuala Penyu (3), as well as Kota Belud, Kunak, Tenom and Beaufort (1).

Today Sabah also recorded another fatality involving a 71-year-old man at the Queen Elizabeth hospital here.

Masidi said that the case was from Penampang district and extended condolences to the family members.

As of today, 219 patients had been discharged from the hospitals while there are still 1,577 getting treatment at the hospitals and low-risk treatment centres.
