KOTA KINABALU: A 37-year-old pregnant teacher with complications tested positive for Covid-19 when she was admitted to the Sipitang Hospital.

The woman, who teaches at a primary school in Sipitang, is the index case of the Kampung Malaman cluster, which has a cumulative number of 14 cases.

Sabah Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said the woman was experiencing bleeding when she sought treatment at the Sipitang hospital.

"Screening of contacts from the school also found four teachers, a canteen worker and seven students are also infected.

"Further tests also found the index case's close contact is also positive for Covid-19," he said in a statement.

The second cluster in Sabah is Kampung Padang Tembak in Keningau with 21 cases to date.

Masidi, who is also state Local Government and Housing Minister, said the index case for this cluster involves a 15-year-old student who was positive for Covid-19 when he underwent screening before going to Labuan.

"From observations, the infection spread further following the interstate travel activities by the index case's family members.

"Apart from that, the family has been having frequently visiting elatives' houses in Kampung Padang Tembak, Keningau," he added.

As for today's statistics, he said Sabah has 73 new cases with one death reported in Kudat.
