KOTA KINABALU: An enforcement officer has been arrested for allegedly accepting an
RM1,500 bribe over a maritime offence.
The arrest of the 28-year-old man was made by the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) at 7.20pm yesterday in Sepanggar.
Sources said the money was used as a bribe to induce the officer against taking action against an individual whose small boat licence had expired.
Sabah MACC director S. Karunanithy confirmed the arrest.
He said the suspect was detained for 24 hours and was released on MACC bail today.
The case is being investigated under Section 17 (a) of the Malaysian Anti -Corruption Commission Act 2009.
