KOTA KINABALU: The issue of Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) wanting to "cooperate" with other political parties is being manipulated, said Sabah Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin.

Bung Moktar, who is also deputy Chief Minister, said such a cooperation was not about forming a new government, but more on developing the state and improving the economy which was badly affected by the pandemic.

"It is not only PBS, even us in the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) including Barisan Nasional, Umno and others are ready to collaborate in terms of ideas and views to develop the state for the wellbeing of the people," he said in a statement.

He added despite the government being led by GRS, it would still listen to suggestions from the opposition if it is good for the people.

Bung Moktar said he was only aware of the "cooperation" when it went viral in social media but assured it was just a rumour spread by irresponsible people who wanted to cause confusion.

He added it was unlikely that there would be a change of government as GRS had made deals on ensuring political stability for the sake of state development.

The controversy, Bung Moktar said, was not about political issues but more to the spread of fake news and urged the people not to be influenced by it.

"For Umno and Sabah Barisan Nasional, we are calm about it and will focus on efforts to develop the state for the people."
