KOTA KINABALU: A free online tuition programme has been launched to assist underprivileged Form 5 students, here.

Dubbed as the #LuyangCareTuitionProgram, Luyang assemblyman Ginger Phoong said education is important and should not be affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

"Once again, schools are shutting down and another wave of the pandemic is back.

"I truly understand the challenges faced by students who would be taking the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination this year as days to prepare are getting shorter.

"Therefore, I hereby launch the #LuyangCareTuitionProgram for underprivileged Form 5 students to allow SPM candidates to have free online tuition," he said in a Facebook post.

Starting Monday, all school sessions will be held online for two weeks through the home-based teaching and learning method (PdPR).

Phoong added the five-month programme which covers six subjects is a collaboration with SPM Accelerate.

He said people are welcome to support this initiative by donating to the Luyang Community Centre via its Public Bank Berhad account no 321 181 5524.

"Special thanks to kind donors for supporting our initiative to help B40 students to have free tuition. This will help our children in achieving their dreams."
