KOTA KINABALU: The multipurpose hall at the Federal Administrative Complex which serves as a vaccination centre was overcrowded due to recipients not following their appointment times.

Sabah Health director Datuk Dr Christina Rundi was responding to viral pictures and videos of large crowds queuing at the premises, to the extent there was no physical distancing between them.

"I was informed that those receiving the second dose (of Covid-19 vaccines) were given appointments by MySejahtera as AM and PM only which resulted in them coming around the same time.

"There were some walk-ins too but we gave them an appointment for another time," she said.

Kota Kinabalu member of parliament Chan Foong Hin had also posted the incidents on his Facebook page.

"Today is the second dose vaccination date for senior citizens. According to the (a) complainer, senior citizens (have) queued up for one and a half hours there.

"Overcrowding in front of the vaccination hall would defeat the purpose of avoiding virus spreading."
