Thanksgiving ceremony triggers Covid-19 cluster in Sandakan

KOTA KINABALU: A new cluster in Sandakan is associated with a thanksgiving prayer gathering.

Sabah Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said the cluster's index case, a 46-year-old tested positive on June 16 after suffering from fever and insomnia since June 11.

"The Kg Nelayan Tengah-Sandakan cluster is closely related with the organisation of the said prayer gathering on June 13 at the village.

"Following close contact screenings, another 24 tested positive for Covid-19 while 21 are still waiting for results," he said in a statement.

Another cluster in Penampang identified as the Jalan Bundusan cluster had involved workers from a food processing factory.

He said a 43-year-old asymptomatic worker tested positive on June 19.

The targeted screening was conducted on those in Taman Puri Warisan which had been placed under the Enhanced Movement Control Order.

"Following the case detection, the employer carried out the RTK screening test at the workplace and found eight other infected workers."

Sabah recorded 163 Covid-19 cases with one death each in Sandakan and Semporna.
